Ask Dan!
Q: There’s so much that the newsletter community is excited (and nervous!) about when it comes to AI — but is there one thing you think we shouldn’t hand over to AI?
A: I’m cheating a bit here and repeating a question that Chris Miquel asked me on his podcast the other day.
It’s a good question, because it seems like AI can do everything.
And I gave Chris the answer that might be a bit too earnest, but I really believe it: “Our curiosity.”
AI can handle so many things: It can write, edit, create, brainstorm. It can analyze data. It can automate tedious processes.
But I hope that as we integrate AI into our lives, we don’t lose our sense of curiosity. So many of the best things that have happened in the newsletter space — and in the world, of course — have come because of our curiosity.
What happens if I try ______? What happens if I experiment with ______? What happens if I ask my readers to do ______?
Nearly every week, a client asks me something I’ve never been asked before or never seen before, and I say: “I’m not sure, but let’s try a few things and see what happens.”
AI is endlessly powerful, but I don’t think it can see the world quite the way we can. I’m all for using AI, but we need to stay curious, too.
The curious are the ones who break through.
