On New Year’s Eve, Keith stepped outside the front door of his apartment in Northridge. Off-duty ICE Agent Brian Palacios, who lived in the same complex, set his sights on Keith — not as a neighbor, but as a target. Palacios put on his tactical gear, grabbed his ICE-issued firearm, stepped back outside, and shot Keith dead in front of his own home.
Keith was a Black father, son, neighbor, and community member. What happened to him could happen to any of us.
Keith Porter’s family, organizers with Black Lives Matter-Los Angeles, and more than 30 activists met with Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman less than a week after Keith Porter was killed, gave him the information from the community, and demanded prosecution. In that meeting, DA Hochman said that he was waiting on the LAPD investigation to be turned over. That report was received by DA Hochman on July 1st, and his office is now saying that it may be another 7 months or more before he determines whether or not he will pursue charges.
This case is not an anomaly. It reflects the dangerous reality Black and Brown communities face under aggressive immigration enforcement and the Trump administration’s cruelty toward communities of color.
When ICE is empowered to operate with impunity, no one in our communities is truly safe. Sign the petition to demand that District Attorney Nathan Hochman prosecute ICE Agent Brian Palacios!
This is a fight to protect Black life. This is a fight against white supremacist terrorism and fascism. We won’t stop until we see justice for Keith Porter.
Until Justice Is Real,
