Saving our ocean, one tick at a time

As a premium watch brand, diving watches are at the core of our collection.

But without a healthy ocean, there’s nowhere to dive. So as we celebrate Trident Summer – named after our iconic dive series – we’re also paying respect to our seas, and the people working to preserve them for generations to come.

And that’s where Blue Marine Foundation comes in.

Set up in 2010, Blue Marine are superheroes of the sea, dedicated to restoring and protecting our ocean. From protecting fishing stocks in the Greek Islands to helping save yellowfin tuna around Thailand, their projects are rejuvenating seascapes all over the world.

This week, we launched the new Trident 30x30, a dive watch inspired by the coral reefs of the tropics and the humble parrotfish – whose constant grazing clears reefs of algae, enabling them to grow again. And whose sales will help fund even more of the vital conservation work Blue Marine is doing around the world.

Blue Marine: making a real difference

Blue Marine Foundation has one pressing target: to put 30 percent of the ocean ‘under protection’ by 2030 – through what it calls its ‘30x30’ project, whose name has inspired the new Trident 30x30.

Blue Marine’s CEO, Clare Brook, says: “Back in 2014, there was a huge amount of overfishing, but hardly any marine protected areas (MPAs). Since then there’s been roughly a tenfold increase. We’re now up to 10 percent of the world’s ocean under some form of protection. That sounds small, but it’s equivalent in area to the entire United States, plus the whole of Europe”

“In common with the rest of humanity, the biggest challenge is getting political leaders to focus on what really matters: climate change and biodiversity loss. There’s a tendency to prioritise short-term issues like potholes or leadership struggles, but if we let the planet heat to a point of no return, the rest becomes immaterial. Our task is to keep politicians focused on the most important issues facing the human race.”

The Christopher Ward connection

Having spent many years living near the sea, witnessing the impact of climate change in front of him, CW CEO Mike France has always had a deep affinity for the coast. That’s why when Dan Crockett, now executive director at Blue Marine, reached out to discuss partnerships in 2019, it was an easy decision to support the organisation. The relationship has become a cornerstone of Christopher Ward’s 2% for GOOD initiative, with 2 percent of Trident sales going towards Blue Marine’s 30x30 mission.

So far, Christopher Ward has raised over £750,000 for Blue Marine. This has been achieved through 2% for GOOD and the timepieces we’ve created with Blue Marine, such as the C60 BLUE Limited Edition, C60 Trident Pro 600 Mk3 Blue Marine Foundation and the C63 SH21 Blue Marine.

The new Trident 30x30

Limited to 500 pieces, the new Trident 30x30 takes its name from the 30x30 action plan. And for every one sold, Christopher Ward will donate an extra £30 to Blue Marine, on top of the existing 2% for GOOD commitment. With its bespoke wave dial in teal, red coral-coloured seconds hand and sleek four-piece case, it’s a fitting tribute to Blue Marine.

“This is the first watch that supports their goal of having 30 percent of the ocean protected by 2030,” says CW’s chief operating officer Sarah Baumann. “And as we saw with David Attenborough’s Ocean documentary in 2025, there really is no time waste if we’re to save the seas – and that’s why our partnership with Blue Marine, and this watch, are so important.”
