Sana’s Gene-Edited Islets Continue to Make Insulin
Sana Biotechnology’s novel cell therapy approach uses gene editing to help transplanted islet cells evade immune attack while continuing to produce insulin. A new publication in The New England Journal of Medicine provides more detail about the first person with type 1 diabetes (T1D) treated with Sana’s gene-edited islets. This person is still making insulin 14+ months after their islet transplant—without immunosuppressants!

Join the 2027 Children’s Congress Information Session
The 2027 Children’s Congress virtual information session will take place on Thursday, August 13 at 4 p.m. Families can learn more about how to apply and what to expect if selected. Young people ages 4–17 who live with T1D and reside within the United States are welcome to apply. Selected Delegates will have the opportunity to meet with federal decision-makers in Washington, D.C., in summer 2027!

Joining the Greater San Francisco and Sacramento Valley Chapter are Kelly Close, Brooke Coutre, Lily Dunbar, Jim Horalek, and Don Rigler.
