New Releases

This month, we published Professor Stuart Kells’ timely contribution to the Australian monetary policy debate. In an innovative analysis that will resonate with many, Kells argues that flawed assumptions are creating inefficiency and imbalance across the broader economy.

July also saw the release of a new monograph highlighting a significant ‘in-country’ Indonesian studies program that has now run for three decades, strengthening human and intellectual connections between Australia and its northern neighbour.

Fragile Prosperity

Australia's Gigantic Monetary Gamble

‘Many younger Australians no longer feel that hard work brings a better life. In this timely book, Kells reveals the deeper, actual reasons Australia is no longer a land of economic opportunity.’
— Thomas Walker, CEO, Think Forward

Fragile Prosperity re-examines five decades of Australian economic policy, arguing that prevailing approaches rest on misunderstandings of money, taxation and fiscal policy. It explores the consequences for inflation, housing and inequality, and considers what Australia’s experience means for other advanced economies.

Coming Soon

Next month, we'll publish the newest issue of Made in China Journal, exploring the emergence of political depression in contemporary China and offering fresh perspectives on its relationship to agency, resistance and authoritarian rule.

While later in August, we look forward to releasing a thought-provoking monograph that examines the challenges facing the global economic order, presenting ideas for sustained cooperation and prosperity in an increasingly fragmented world.

Made in China Journal

Volume 11, Issue 1, 2026

This issue of Made in China Journal explores the concept of political depression as a culturally and socially shaped response to authoritarianism, disenfranchisement and social upheaval.

Examining its emergence and expression in contemporary China, this issue considers how historical trauma, the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2022 White Paper movement have shaped experiences of hopelessness, agency and resistance.
