Why wouldn’t we wax on about whisky?
Waxiness is one of those descriptive terms that seems puzzling until you experience it. How can whisky be waxy? But then you try a Deanston or a Clynelish and you know exactly what’s meant. Sitting somewhere between a texture, a mouthfeel and a flavour note, waxiness is integral to the allure of Clynelish and is deeply complementary to hefty, meaty single malts such as Craigellachie.
Indeed, Deanston’s recent revival is in part due to emphasising this increasingly rare characteristic. So, why not take a walk on the waxy side?
