Lagavulin is a distillery apart. Even running at full capacity, it struggles to meet demand for the rich and complex peated single malt it is renowned for. Thus it is that the 12 Year Old is only released as an annual special, which makes the £90 discount on this 2018 edition so much more striking.

That comparative youth makes for a fresher and brighter expression with a touch more peat, but not lacking any of its older sibling’s precision or joy.
