Deals writer (and former shoe designer) Martha Tuber has long wished to replace her Birkenstock Bostons with something a little more elevated (up until now, it was the only shoe her pregnant feet could tolerate). “I dreamt of a postpartum wardrobe that made me feel as polished as I did pre-pregnancy (if not more so) and also accounted for the fact that I’d be toting around an infant and chasing after a 5-year-old,” she says. So, she set a wide net spanning basic Birkenstock-inspired pairs, more delicate and dressy styles, backless boat shoes, and all kinds of garden clogs to find the perfect pair for chasing those children around her home in L.A. Here’s what she found.
“The inconsistency of stains sent me down a bit of a rabbit hole recently, sleuthing online and reading a concerning amount of reviews in hopes of finding the very best stains out there. Then I decided to take it upon myself to test a bunch of products … extensively.
I tried roughly ten to 20 products in each of my ‘stain categories’ across every price point from drugstore to designer, looking for formulas that actually deliver on that original fantasy of long-lasting flushes of color that stay put and wear beautifully throughout the day. These are the ones that made the cut.” —Rio Viera-Newton, contributor
