Harbor seal release

We recently released five harbor seal pups—Peppercini, Perilla, Primrose, Saltine and Willow—for a second chance in their ocean home. Harbor seal pups are some of our most vulnerable patients. Many are separated from their mothers too soon and suffer from starvation.

While at our hospital, these pups were fed nutritious meals, learned how to compete for fish and socialized with pen-mates to prepare for life in the wild—all thanks to you!

How Our Patients are Named and Identified

Harbor seals in a pool

In a single pen at our hospital, there can be five or six seemingly identical seals resting on the pen floor or swimming in the pool. So how do our animal care staff and volunteers know which patient gets which medications?

From individual names to specialized tags, learn how our experts identify and keep track of the seals and sea lions in our care.
