Dear reader,
Thank you for reading The Conversation. We are sending you this email because we thought you might be interested in some insights we learned about why people like you, our most loyal readers, value The Conversation. We’d also like to get your input on what stories you think our editorial team should be pursuing in what already is an eventful year.
When asked in a survey what readers like most about The Conversation, three key themes emerge:
Quality – The reliability of the information tops the list. We produce explanatory journalism that is based in research and our academic authors’ expertise. It’s the result of a rigorous editorial process that aims to present facts and to be nonpartisan.
Diversity – Every time you open one of our email newsletters, you’ll discover something new – and most likely find an article you didn’t know you’d be interested in. As one reader wrote in: “I feel like my world has really expanded since finding out about this place.” Unlike other media organizations that have pared down their coverage to a few topics, we explore everything, from astronomy to Zoroastrianism.
Depth – Our authors have studied what they’re writing about for years or decades, and work with seasoned journalists to produce articles that are accessible yet still nuanced and detailed. There’s no shortage of hot takes and opining in the media. What we provide is context and analysis to help you make sense of events – as well as learn about fascinating new research and ideas from the world of academia.
Here are a few recent articles, which have been popular with our newsletter subscribers, that I think reflect those values:
