Komen’s Patient Care Center is a lifeline for thousands of patients nationwide. This year alone, they provided more than 30,000 services to our community, including emotional support, financial assistance, navigation to care providers and access to trusted educational resources.
In July 2020, Maty, a grandmother of three, was diagnosed with breast cancer after a routine mammogram showed a suspicious spot. She had no symptoms and does not have a family history of the disease. "It was a shock," she said.
Maty's treatment included a lumpectomy, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. "Look at the blessings around you," she said. "Breast cancer is not a death sentence. Go for a walk, spend time outside, see your friends and family."
