Kicking Into August with the Spirit

Here's everything you need to know this month, on the pitch and off it!

The Spirit is back at Audi Field on Saturday, August 8, hosting the North Carolina Courage for Spirit Worldwide: Culture Night. Kickoff is 6:30 PM.

The theme fits the moment. The Spirit has the most internationally diverse roster in the NWSL with players from 14 different countries, including six representing their countries in the Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) right now.

We're in the middle of an important August stretch with four home games, and the Spirit isn't backing down! Every match is a chance to improve the club’s spot on the table as the Spirit tries to win the NWSL Shield. The Spirit already beat the NC Courage once this year, 2-0 on the road. Time to do it again!

SPIRIT AWARDS

Two awards. One incredible month.

Head Coach Adrián González was named NWSL Coach of the Month for July. His second time earning the honor in just five months on the sideline.

Right beside him, star forward Trinity Rodman won Player of the Month for her explosive July, scoring five goals, including three match-winners plus an assist in the Spirit’s 5-1 month.

Capital Queens: D.C.'s First-Ever Women's Sports Week

The Spirit and the Washington Mystics are joining forces for Capital Queens, presented by Giant, D.C.'s first-ever Women's Sports Week, running September 20-26.

Join the Mystics and Spirit as we celebrate the fans who wear the crown, the athletes who earn it, and the community that makes D.C. the capital of women's sports. Together, we Bring the Rhythm and rally behind Our City, Our Spirit.

Spirit Players Are Making Noise at WAFCON

Six Spirit players are competing for their countries at the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations, and three of them won on Matchday 2.

Incoming midfielder Monique Ngock helped Cameroon clinch a knockout stage spot, incoming defender Alimata Bélem powered Burkina Faso to a 2-1 win, and Deborah Abiodun helped Nigeria to a 1-0 win over Zambia.

Keep an eye out. Some of these names will be wearing Spirit colors soon.

NWSL Championship

It all comes down to this.

The next NWSL Champion will be crowned at Audi Field on November 21. The top two teams go head-to-head but only one will leave a champion.
