Advocating for one’s health can be challenging. Dominique Jahnavi Delgado didn’t let that stop her, though. Her determination to get answers to her confusing symptoms led to a long-awaited diagnosis and treatment. Although getting a diagnosis of thyroid cancer was difficult, she was relieved to have answers. Beyond that, she was amazed by the events that followed.
After Delgado had surgery to remove her thyroid gland, her surgeon referred her to UCLA Health Cancer Care Center in San Luis Obispo for follow-up. She had a visit with Brian DiCarlo, MD, a hematologist and oncologist, who told her about the on-site resources at the Simms/Mann Center.
There she met Linda Braddy-Argano, LCSW, a clinical social worker who provided ongoing psychosocial support and helpful resources. Not only did Braddy-Argano provide much-needed support, but she also helped make it possible for her to celebrate her cancer recovery with the trip of a lifetime.
As Delgado looks back at her cancer journey, she’s grateful for the top-tier support provided by UCLA Health. She also hopes to inspire others to advocate for their healthcare because it can make all the difference.
