Not all cotton claims tell the full story

Some mattress materials sound simple enough, but the terminology doesn't always tell you exactly what's inside. Let's take a closer look at one common example.

We agree — “blended cotton batting” sounds simple and reassuring. It suggests a soft layer made from cotton, but the word “blended” leaves out an important detail: what the cotton is blended with.

“Blended cotton batting” typically combines cotton with synthetic fibers like polyester. The cotton is only one part of the mixture, yet the material is described in a way that places all the emphasis on the natural-sounding ingredient.

It’s Not an Oversight.
It’s Greenwashing.

“Blended cotton batting” doesn’t tell you where the fibers came from, which materials are included, or how much of the batting is actually cotton. That lack of detail is intentional. (AKA, if you had the missing context, you probably wouldn’t like it.)
