The decline of big cats could have major ramifications for our environment and the natural resources humans and wildlife depend on for survival. That’s why National Geographic Explorers are working to ensure a more peaceful coexistence with wildlife.
Changemakers like National Geographic Explorer Shivani Bhalla are in the field working to develop conservation efforts alongside local communities to minimize human-wildlife conflict. As a founder and executive director of Ewaso Lions, she works to promote coexistence between people and lions. Through Ewaso Lions’ community-led programs, young tribal warriors have helped dramatically shift the way people in their community interact with lions and other wildlife.
Scientific research and storytelling are key to ensuring a healthier coexistence between humans and wildlife. National Geographic Explorers are working with local communities to understand and spread the knowledge they need to be wildlife advocates and defenders, helping to change attitudes about how local communities view lions and other big cats in order to advocate for their protection.
