Silver Boot
Silver Boot Stays Home
The Silver Boot is staying in Houston for another year. With their July 31win over the Rangers, the Astros officially clinched the 2026 Silver Boot Series presented by the Texas Lottery, continuing their dominance in the Lone Star State rivalry. Houston entered last weekend's series with a 6-4 edge over the Rangers and needed just one more victory to secure the season series. The Astros went on to sweep the Rangers, ensuring the Silver Boot stayed home once again. Since 2017, the Astros have owned the Silver Boot, winning it in 10 consecutive seasons and proving once again that the Silver Boot belongs in Houston.

Alvarez & Peña Recognized with AL Awards
Major League Baseball announced last week that DH Yordan Alvarez earned American League Player of the Month honors for July, while SS Jeremy Peña was named the American League Player of the Week for July 20-26.

It marks the fourth AL Player of the Month Award of Alvarez's career and his second this season, after also earning the honor for March-April. In 23 games during July, Alvarez hit .360 (31-for-86) with nine home runs, 22 RBI, a .467 OBP, a .721 slugging percentage, and a 1.188 OPS. He led the American League in home runs, RBI, OPS, and slugging percentage, while ranking second in walks (15) and hits (31), and fourth in both batting average and OBP.

July was a continuation of Alvarez's MVP-caliber season. He currently leads the league in all three Triple Crown categories, ranking first in batting average (.330), home runs (35), and RBI (84). Additionally, he leads MLB in OPS (1.092), OBP (.442), slugging percentage (.650), extra-base hits (59), and total bases (262). Among American League players, he also ranks first in hits (133) and runs scored (77), while sitting third in walks (77). Alvarez is now just the second Astros player to win multiple Player of the Month Awards in a single season, joining 1B Jeff Bagwell.

Peña's honor is the first AL Player of the Week Award of his career. For the week of July 20-26, he hit .500 (13-for-26) across six games with five home runs, eight RBI, and a 1.577 OPS, helping lead the Astros to a 5-1 record. His week included a league-leading five homers, including two leadoff home runs and a grand slam, while he also recorded three consecutive three-hit games.

Among all American League players during the week, Peña ranked first in hits (13), home runs (5), runs scored (10), and slugging percentage (1.077), tied for first in batting average (.500) and OPS (1.577), and ranked second in RBI (8).

Overall, Peña is enjoying a strong season, batting .319 (72-for-226) with nine doubles, 11 home runs, 30 RBI, eight stolen bases, a .373 OBP, and an .877 OPS in 59 games. The Astros have gone 32-27 in games in which Peña has appeared this season.
2026 Draft Class Signings
2026 Draft Class Signings
The Houston Astros announced last week that they have signed 20 members of their 2026 MLB Draft class. Among the most notable signees are OF Logan Hughes from Texas Tech, selected 17th overall, and RHP Jack Radel from the University of Notre Dame, selected 28th overall.

Hughes, a native of Daytona Beach, Florida, is a left-handed hitter who batted .375 with 18 home runs and 71 RBIs last season at Texas Tech. He also demonstrated excellent plate discipline with 50 walks and only 33 strikeouts. Hughes primarily plays the corner outfield positions but is also capable of playing first base.

Radel, a right-hander from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, enjoyed an outstanding season at Notre Dame in 2026. The 21-year-old posted an 8-3 record with a 3.29 ERA, a 1.03 WHIP, and a .206 opponents' batting average across 87 2/3 innings. He recorded 116 strikeouts while issuing just 22 walks.

The Astros are pleased to welcome all their signees to the organization and look forward to their contributions both on and off the field.
