Email, last month's catastrophic earthquakes in Venezuela were the largest to strike the area in more than a century. Thousands of lives have been lost. Tens of thousands of people are still missing beneath collapsed buildings. And too many survivors are struggling to find safe drinking water.
Yet even in the wake of this immense devastation, I find myself incredibly inspired by my colleagues in Venezuela who immediately jumped into action. They are deeply committed to helping people recover from this crisis, with the help of compassionate donors like you.
One of those colleagues is Everardo, a member of our emergency response team, who visited with our partners in Venezuela. He shared what he's witnessed over the past few weeks—and how the IRC is responding.
While communities begin the long road to recovery, IRC staff members like Everardo are working tirelessly to scale up lifesaving assistance with our partners, including:
🚑
Providing emergency healthcare through fixed clinics and mobile health units where local health systems have been overwhelmed.
💧
Restoring access to clean water by distributing hygiene kits and water purification supplies to help prevent disease outbreaks.
👪
Supporting children and families with protection services, case management and psychosocial support as they recover from unimaginable trauma.
But as Ever shares in his video:
"There is no going back to normal for Venezuelans."
The IRC has been on the ground delivering aid in Venezuela since 2021. The recent disaster has changed both the level of need and challenges to delivery—but not our commitment to providing assistance for those in need.
Because of supporters like you, we'll be there as long as we're needed, so displaced families can recover and rebuild their lives.
