Forests around the globe are collapsing right now, Andy. Indigenous communities are being forced off the land they stewarded for generations. Animals are dying as their habitats are RAZED to the ground.

Giant agribusiness companies are profiting to the tune of BILLIONS of dollars from this destruction. But many of these companies pay very little in taxes – sometimes nothing in taxes. And because of global rules that allow companies to hide their profits in tax havens, even the taxes they do pay rarely benefit the countries where the companies are driving deforestation – and where people and ecosystems suffer the impacts of their destructive business models.

This needs to change. That’s why Friends of the Earth is joining with allies around the world to ensure that a new United Nations Tax Convention calls for taxing multinational agribusiness companies in the countries where they operate – a critical step to rein in their destructive practices. The UN Tax Convention being negotiated NOW provides a once-in-a-generation opportunity to change the global rules that put corporate profits over people and nature.
